Welsh
My name is Aubrey Welsh and I was born in Durban, South Africa. I went to school in Amanzimtoti during the 1960s and 1970s matriculating from Kingsway Senior High School in 1972. After a year in the South African Defence Force, I went on to study teaching at Edgewood College of Education in Pinetown. I taught at Mansfield Boys High and Beachwood Boys High before leaving teaching and becoming a professional performing artist across South Africa. From 1988 until 1996, I was employed by the South African Broadcasting Corporation in a number of different roles, ending my SABC career as Manager Productions, National Network Television (NNTV).

In 1997, I made the decision to emigrate to New Zealand with my home base being in Auckland. I qualified with a Trinity College CertTESOL in December 1997 and contributed to the ESOL industry until my retirement in 2020. During that career, I was privileged to work in New Zealand, across north-east Asia - based in Hong Kong - the Middle East, the UK and also in Australia. As a natural progression from my teaching career, I was employed as an education manager at a number of different centres and was an IELTS Examiner for more than a decade.

Now that I have retired, I have begun to reflect on my life and times, creating this blog to share my life with you. I share with you my end of life options and why I am ready to make that choice. I hope you find something interesting, something inspiring and something to add value to your life as you navigate through the site. The photo at right was taken at the (Chinese) Geographic Centre of Asia, some 20km south-west of Urumqi, Xinjiang Province, China.
