Some of the places I've called 'home'
Durban, South Africa
I regard Durban as my first 'home city' as it was where I was born. I spent some of my youth on the South Coast of Natal and in my late twenties moved to Johannesburg to further my career in the performing arts/media. But I will always be 'from Durban'.

Johannesburg, South Africa
After leaving teaching in Durban in 1983, I moved to Johannesburg to further my career in the performing arts. After four years of professional freelancing, I joined the SABC. The photo shows a marketing campaign I designed for a radio station launch - hung on the side of the SABC building in Milpark..
Auckland, New Zealand
This was my arrival destination after emigrating from South Africa. Auckland is a 'little big' city with a population of some 1.7 million comprising more than 200 different nationalities - a truly cosmopolitan city. I have no regrets about migrating to this beautiful part of the world.
Hong Kong
I arrived in Hong Kong in 2003 just before the SARS epidemic hit. This did not daunt my stay or experience going on to live in the region for five years.Much of my teaching was at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. From HK, I was able to travel to much of Asia.
Macau
Like Hong Kong, Macau is a Special Administrative Region of China. I love the remnants of its Portuguese heritage found in both the street names and the cuisine. I am privileged to have a number of Portuguese friends across the globe..
Durham, England
I have travelled more than half a dozen times to the UK but my special association with Durham is my summer teaching at Durham University begun just a few years ago. I have a number of close friends living across the UK with Berkhamsted another home in the UK.

Jizan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
I spent one year in KSA, assisting with the inauguration of a new polytechnic (SESP). I was Head of Year 1 responsible for the English Language development of the male students.
Brisbane (photo) & Melbourne, Australia
After visiting Australia in 1996 (Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane), I next spent four years (from 2014 - 2018) living and teaching at QUTIC (Brisbane) and Monash University (Melbourne).
Mangere Bridge, Auckland
This is likely to be my final 'home' as I am now semi-retired and looking forward to travelling around the world to see family and friends, each time returning to this serene spot on the Manukau Harbour.
